Cleft lip nose is secondary deformities following cleft lip repair in early childhood. Cleft lip/palate is congenital deformity affecting lip, nose and palate. The primary surgery of cleft lip and palate repair are done in early childhood. However, as child grows either some of deformities of lip and nose after the surgery becomes more obvious. These young adult will need secondary correction of cleft lip and nose.

What are the pre-treatment necessary ?
Some of these children will have defect in alveolus or deficiency in facial bones. These defects need to be corrected before aesthetic correction o flip and nose. Some of these young adults also have deficiency of teeth which are replaced as dentures.

What does surgery involve ?
The surgery involves correction of lip which may need opening of the lip completely for proper alignment. Occasionally, it may require augmentation of lip by various technique. If deformities are very gross of lip and nose, surgery can be done in two stages. In unilateral cleft lip nose, the septum is usually severely deviated and needs septoplasty to improve the symmetry and obstruction for breathing. It may need extra cartilage graft from septum, ear or chest to improve the shape.
